Q. Why Drumming as a Team Building Activity?
A.
Using Drumming for the team building activity
works really well because-
1. The activity includes everyone irrespective
of background, education or past experiences.
2. It is one of the few team building activities
that can involve a large group of people at once
without the need to break the group up into smaller
groups.
3. Creating rhythm is primal and at some level
is natural for everyone. It’s easy to do
and it is great fun.
4. Its straightforward to gauge the success
of the activities - the participants can instantly
hear and feel when it’s working or not working.
5. Drumming as a group creates an uplifting
energy that is powerful and memorable.

Q. is it a good Ice Breaker?
A.
It is a great icebreaker because the energy created
by the drums is so exciting that participants
really want to join in and move with the music.
Within many religious faiths and healing practices
the vibration of musical instruments (drums, bells,
chants etc) are seen as a way to clear the energy
and prepare for what is to follow. Many clients
have commented upon how the drumming set a positive
tone that was upheld throughout the conference.

Q. How does it work?
A.
The room/space is set up so that upon each participants
chair there is a drum. When the participants come
into the room they pick up their drums and following
the guidance of the facilitator they commence
playing simple through to more complex and layered
rhythms as the session progresses.
The Drum Beats facilitator is highly skilled
in bringing out the best in the participants.
The Drum Beats facilitators bring forward a great
deal of experience and just as importantly the
enthusiasm and creativity to bring any group to
musical life!

Q. what is the best sized group for team building?
A.
The best sized group is any number from ten up
to thousands of people! Naturally different dynamics
and levels of energy are created in different
group sizes. Either a small group or a large group
work well; it is relative to the objectives of
the conference, event or session.

Q. Does Drum Beats really
bring a drum for everyone?
A.
Yes.

Q. Does Drum Beats have
a venue?
A.
Drum Beats comes to the venue of your choice
or Drum Beats can recommend a venue. Drum Beats
has partnerships with some hotels and can recommend
many of the venues at which it has previously
conducted team building activities.

Q. What sized room/space
is required for a drumming team building activity?
A.
We can work with you and make almost any space
work.
Usually we use the room that the conference is
being held in.
Provided there is enough room for each participant
to have a chair and space for the Drum Beats musicians,
the space will be large enough.

Q. How should the room/Space
be set up?
A.
There are several ways to set up the room
1. Semi Circle/U shape - Chairs in a semi circle,
one or several rows with (or without) an aisle
down the middle.
2. Theatre Style - Chairs in straight rows facing
the front of the room with (or without) an aisle
down the middle.
3. Club Style - Chairs around tables, as is often
the case at dinner functions and conferences.
4. Herringbone - Chairs in a v-shaped row facing
the front of the room with (or without) an aisle
down the middle).

Q. Can we do the session
outdoors?
A.
Outdoors is great, especially when the weather
is on our side!
Q. We don't have much time
in our schedule - can it still work?
A.
Yes, for larger events it can be incredibly powerful
and memorable even when there is only 10 minutes
available. The logistical side of the activity
often becomes the crucial factor in these cases.
Drum Beats is experienced in successfully dealing
with these situations.

Q. How much time do we
need for a team building session?
A.
The time frames that we recommend are as follows
1. Ice breaker 10 to 45 minutes
2. Conference Opening 10 to 45 minutes
3. Energy Raiser - 5 to 20 minutes
4. Team Building Activity - 30 to 120 minutes

Q. We are a very conservative
group - I am not sure if this team building activity
will work?
A.
On many occasions over the past 6 years some
clients have initially expressed some concern
as to whether their group would really participate
and benefit from a Drum Beats team building session.
On each occasion the client has been very happily
surprised by the level of participation of even
the most conservative members of their delegation.
This leads us to suggest - On balance we are all
just human beings called upon to play certain
roles in life/work which are often habit forming.
Often an opportunity to interact in a different
way i.e. communicating through rhythm in a drumming
team building session is really enjoyed and much
appreciated.

Q. What about if we have
no sense of rhythm?
A.
At Drum Beats we believe that everyone has a
natural sense of rhythm. For some people it may
be untapped or need rediscovering.
Drum Beats most important skills lie with the
ability of the facilitators to really connect
with the participants, and encourage them to be
solely in the moment and enjoy creating the music
with their colleagues.

Q.
How will this help my company?
A.
We can guarantee the participants will be talking
about the event for weeks to come. There will
be a buzz in the office resulting from the fun
of working to a common beat.
Happy people = productive, intuitive & smarter
people.

Q. Why do you use drums?
A.
The drum is probably the easiest instrument to
use.
Hitting a drum is therapeutic. It allows people
to release energy in a way not usually possible.
During a Drum Beats team building exercise, participants
listen to each other and play to a common beat.
Participants see, hear and feel the advantage
of working together.
The group sounds terrific and individuals gain
from an exhilarating experience of team work.

Q. Will you show us how to play the drums?
A.
Actual technique is secondary.
Our primary objective is to offer participants
an experience of the unity and community created
by interactive group dynamics.
(We do some very simple, easy to implement techniques.)
